Narconon Survey Review

DIRT – Downtown Independent Research Team

“Each time a person stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, these ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.” ~ Robert Kennedy ~

The Scientology rehab centers, Narconon, are about to be shaken around the globe by a team of dedicated Anonymous activists. Indeed, many hundreds, perhaps thousands of hours, poured into a comprehensive Narconon success rate survey. This DIRT Survey was posted over on “Reaching for the Tipping Point” many months ago and was linked to many other sites:

The Narconon success rate has been a controversial issue for many years and is once again in recent news media reports and publications, questioning the credibility of their outlandish claims of high success rates. There is simply no independent, verifiable information to be found that can establish these high success rates of the patients who complete the Narconon rehab program.

Unfortunately for Scientology-Narconon, detailed accounts of Ex-Narconon patients from around the globe, are about to be analysed and published on a new website under construction, with credible, professional contributors remarking on the statistics. in recent months, the controversy over the Narconon treatment program in Canada shows no sign of subsiding and more victims are speaking out concerning the sub-standard, unprofessional treatment and abuses at Narconon treatment centers. not only in Canada; the United States, Australia, and many other countries are hearing horror stories from these vulnerable and exploited victims. it must be noted that anyone who does speak out against Scientology-Narconon, may face additional harassment as a declared Enemy. Although the Fair Game ‘Enemy” policy was officially cancelled by Hubbard in 1968 because of negative public relations it caused, people who speak out or file complaints against them, are still handled the same way, as still prescribed and in effect by Scientology and their Intelligence Office of Special Affairs (OSA).

This Fair Game Policy states: “May be deprived of property or injured by any means by any Scientologist without any discipline of the Scientologist. May be tricked, sued or lied to or destroyed.” This policy has instilled fear in many people, including media, and rings of their illegal practices and harassment. This alone, persuades many victims to keep silent and refrain from exercising their charter rights as they continue to suffer as an exploited victim.

Mr. Brad Melnychuk from ABLE Canada, (a Scientology entity, stated: “Narconon gets a 65% success rate of abstinence even at its worst. in fact, the average is 75%. the more experienced, larger, and well-staffed organizations get 90%. Now, when we’re talking results; we are talking about being drug-free for life…tracking people for two years after they’ve completed the program.” May 2, 2002 – Canada – 37th PARLIAMENT, 1st SESSION, Special Committee on Non-Medical use of Drugs.

In statements from an  August 21, 2005 Press Release, the National Coalition of Human Rights Activists request the United States’ various Federal healthcare oversight departments and State boards of health to investigate Narconon for alleged dangerous and worthless health care practices.

“The United States government has a duty to the citizens to protect them from dangerous or fraudulent health care scams,” said NCHRA President David Rice. “If the apparent facts about Narconon are true, then the US government is grossly failing to meet that duty.”

“I have personally asked NarConon to provide evidence for their claims that their ‘detox’ treatment is both safe and effective; in every instance they have answered with deafening silence.” said mr. Rice. “All the evidence I have so far been able to accumulate shows Narconon’s treatment is both dangerous and worthless. I would very much like to see evidence otherwise, but Narconon refuses to provide this evidence to me even when I told them I would pay $100 for that evidence.”

James J. Kenney, Ph.D., RD, of the National Council against Health Fraud who said of the NarConon program “Health professionals who subject troubled people (many with psychiatric illnesses and / or severe emotional problems) to this unproven detoxification program are at best unethical and at worst guilty of health fraud.”

There is clear evidence that the success rate which Narconon uses to lure unsuspecting and vulnerable patients into their program, is misrepresented and

far from the real truth. Governments and health authorities are investigating these false claims and Narconon will be held accountable.

The writer commends the Downtown Independent Research Team for their countless hours of labour to initiate and soon complete their statistical analysis of this milestone event of the real truth in the ‘Narconon Success Rate.”

Perhaps the hour of accountability is near.

Narconon: A Drug Rehab Program That Really Works!

Substance abuse is the undoing of many families. The heartache, betrayal, frustration and pain run deep. Even after endless attempts at treating their loved ones, the abuser often relapses and the ruinous cycle for the entire family starts all over again.

The reason for such relapses is often a residue of drugs or alcohol in the system, left even after medical detoxification has been completed. There is another solution, one which has proven in over 76 percent of cases to finally end the vicious cycle. It’s called Narconon.

The Narconon program, offered at Vista Bay Treatment Center in northern California, features a non-medical detox process which, without the use of drugs, purges the addict’s system completely of any residue toxin, including those that can seep into bones and muscles, ridding the body of trigger chemicals that often cause relapse.

Medical physicians have lauded the benefits of Narconon. “I have never liked the concept of using drugs and medications to solve the problems created by drugs and medication,” comments Dr. Megan Shields of the American Board of Family Practice. “There is a place for medication but it is defined and very limited. But with the release of the Sauna Detoxification Program (offered in Narconon), I discovered we had a solution at hand. Those who had completed (the program said) that they were no longer encumbered by the chemicals that were shutting off their lives. They expressed increased mental clarity and a new hope for the future.”

Integral to the success experienced at Narconon Vistabay, is the equally emphasized psychological portion of the program. Seventy-five percent of the program, in fact, is focused on the individual psychological reasons that led a patient into substance abuse and teaching them easily applicable life coping and decision-making skills that will help them make positive choices for handling the challenges of life and choosing friends that will support them in their drug-free lives.

Family involvement in the program is considered paramount to the staff at Narconon Vista Bay. In fact, it is the family of the addicts with whom Vista Bay staff meets with initially to discuss the program and the interlacing of family members into setting the addict free from their abusive behavior. Healing is recognized as a holistic matter at Narconon Vistabay, involving not only the addict but their extended family, as well.

“I encourage you to review (this program) carefully and consider utilizing it,” Dr. Shields, who has been associated with the Narconon program for over 20 years, says. “Many years ago, I did and I have been able to save many lives as a result.

Overcoming Barriers with the Narconon Drug Rehab Program

The first female graduate if the Narconon Drug Rehab Program was Jeannie Trahant in 1973. She has been a drug free menber of society for over 36 years since Her graduation of the program. This is Her personal story.

When Jeannie lost Her father at the age of four she began to use drugs. Her mother soon followed with an alcohol addiction of Her own which only added to Jeannie’s problems. Her mother wasn’t there for Her so she learned at an early age how to to be on Her own.

When she turned sixteen she was a full blown heroin addict. She had always planned to put the drugs down by 18 but when the time came, she was so addicted that she couldn’t stop using. The addiction got so bad that Jeannie ended up in jail. The jails prgroam to help Her only grew Her addiction to drugs.

It wasn’t untill she discovered the Narconon Drug Rehab Program that she began to have hope. She admitted Herself into the program and began to discover Her true abilities which gave the tools neccessary to engage life productivly. She successfully detoxed and graduated the Narconon Drug Rehab Courses.

She later was offered to work for the founder of the Narconon Drug Rehab Program, William Benitez. Her experience with Him was one of comrotery.

“He [Benitez] was one of us one who had beat the addiction through the Narconon Program and won his personal battle forever [drugs].”

Benitez, like Jeannie was a person who overcome barriers in their life and raised their abilities through the Narconon technology. Willie started the Narconon drug rehab program while incarcerated in Arizona state penitentiary, after reading a book by American author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard that helped him to overcome his own addiction to heroin.

The purpose of the Narconon program has always been to raise the abilities of the individual. Some of the first comments on this purpose have been released in a drug education talk given by Willie when the Narconon drug rehab program was just started back in 1966.

The Real Dangers of Alcohol Rehab With Narconon

Narconon is the operational drug and alcohol rehab branch of the Church of Scientology, and they operate almost 200 treatment centers worldwide. Although they are a branch of the Church of Scientology, for a number of reasons they conceal this fact, and no promotional materials for Narconon will ever reveal this affiliation with Scientology.

The Narconon program of drug and alcohol rehabs are based on the works and writings of Scientology founder and Guru L. Ron Hubbard, and although he possessed no real scientific training (he lied about this) the science on which the Narconon organization bases its treatments are all reliant on his works.

Medical professionals have completely disproved the fundamental scientific assertions of the treatments; yet the faithful of Narconon carry on, presenting home grown science that seems to back their claims. They do not allow for any independent confirmation of their data, and are extremely secretive about all data and recovery statistics.

Why Narconon might kill you

One aspect of the philosophy of Narconon, which at face value seems to make some sense, is that since the consumption of drugs has created the addiction and such accompanying problems in life, using drugs (medications) in the treatment of addiction only worsens the addict’s problems.

Of course when you really think about this you can see that drugs of abuse and medically necessary pharmaceuticals are quite unrelated, and that the use of aspirin, is very unlikely to ever worsen a problem with addiction!

Unfortunately, their philosophy of abstinence from all drugs is not only ridiculous; it’s also dangerous; so dangerous that the American Medical Association expressed grave concerns over the safety of the Narconon detox programming ( The dangers of Narconon rehab ).

The detox off of certain drugs, such as alcohol, can be very dangerous, and in some cases even fatal unless pharmaceutically managed; and there is a serious risk of seizures, convulsions and even fatal heart problems.

Thankfully, all of these risks can be controlled through the minimal use of certain CNS depressants, and these medications also greatly reduce the discomfort of an alcohol detox; but at a Narconon rehab, alcoholics are not given needed medications, and are left to take their chances with seizures and convulsions on the back of a misguided and absurd philosophy from an equally misguided scientist.

Narconon is dangerous, and it doesn’t work

Most of the treatments as offered at a Narconon facility make about as much sense as withholding needed medications from people at risk for heart failure, and these drug and alcohol rehabs present a legitimate threat to the health and wellbeing of those who enter.

If you need drug treatment, and especially if you need alcohol rehab and detoxification, you should not consider any Narconon affiliated program as a safe or reasonable place at which to get needed care.

Anyone considering a rehab should make certain that their time, energy and money goes to a treatment facility that offers them the best chance at a full recovery and lifetime of sobriety; a facility that does use scientifically and clinically proven therapies, and a facility that does not risk your health, and even your life by withholding needed and non intoxicating medications.

Do you research, ask your doctor, find a quality program and get the help you deserve. Don’t take a chance with Narconon.
