The Depressing News About Antidepressants: Studies Suggest That The Popular Drugs Are No More Effective Than A Placebo

Opiate drug addiction can cause depression and many patients are prescribed antidepressants by psychiatrists. A blind study in 1998, whose findings were reinforced by landmark research in The Journal of the American Medical Association last month, concludes that antidepressant drugs thought to help with depression are not as effective as once thought. More studies being conducted suggest that benefits are often not much more effective than placebos.

Patients on a placebo improved about 75 percent as much as those on drugs. Yoga, relaxation imaging, meditation, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and other forms of therapy can help combat this debilitating illness.

Most common side effects of antidepressant therapy include sexual problems, drowsiness, sleep difficulties, anxiety, nervousness and nausea. While some side effects may go away after the first few weeks of drug treatment, others can persist and progressively get worse.

In adults over the age of 65, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors pose an additional concern. Studies show that SSRI medications may increase the risk for falls, fractures, and bone loss in older adults. The SSRIs can also cause serious withdrawal symptoms if you stop taking them abruptly. Once you’ve started taking antidepressants, stopping can be difficult; many people have withdrawal symptoms that make it difficult to get off of the medication and may require opiate detox.

If you decide to stop taking antidepressants, it’s essential to taper off slowly. If you stop abruptly, you may experience a number of unpleasant withdrawal symptoms such as crying spells, extreme restlessness, depression, anxiety, dizziness, fatigue, and aches and pains. These withdrawal symptoms are known as antidepressant discontinuation syndrome. Antidepressant discontinuation syndrome is especially common with Paxil or Zoloft. However, all medications for depression can cause withdrawal symptoms.

Juice Fast Detox — A Powerfully Effective, Simple, Safe & Enjoyable Method of Internal Cleansing

Most of us enjoy having a clean house, a clean car, a clean body. We do regular housekeeping, wash our vehicles, and shower every day to maintain that enjoyable state of cleanliness. But when was the last time you thought about cleaning the inside of your body? That needs to be cleaned every bit as much as anything else. In fact keeping our body internally clean should be even more important to us than keeping our outer environment clean , for our body is the most immediate environment we inhabit.

If you are feeling sluggish, tired, bloated and want to shed a few pounds; if you sleep poorly, have indigestion and constipation; if you are just plain achy and cranky, it’s probably because your body is burdened with toxicity. When our body becomes internally overloaded with toxins from eating too many processed foods and from daily exposure to chemicals and pollutants in the world around us, we develop a lot of unpleasant physical side effects. These can be overcome by doing a juice cleanse. This is a powerfully effective means of flushing poisons out of the system naturally, safely, and easily. All that is needed to undertake a juice cleanse is fresh, raw fruit and vegetables (preferably organic), a juice extractor and the desire to start feeling better! And if you are coming off drugs (legal or otherwise), tobacco or alcohol, a juice cleanse can be a great help toward getting those substances and their residual toxins out of your body.

In case you don’t already know, homemade fruit and vegetable juices, in any combination, taste absolutely wonderful. Store bought packaged juices can’t begin to compare, either in taste or in nutritional value, to fresh juice you make yourself. Even people who are not fond of vegetables will find them quite palatable when mixed with and camouflaged by the flavor of fruits. The very rich aroma, flavor and nutrient density of homemade juice is something you owe it to yourself to experience.

There are two ways to undertake a juice cleanse. The first way is to add three servings of homemade juice to your daily diet (a juice cleanse). There is something about the juice that will start a clearing out of the digestive tract. This form of juice cleanse can be continued for as many days as you wish. You will find your cravings for foods that are not good for you will subside as your body becomes unburdened of accumulated waste and nourished by the high levels of vitamins, minerals and enzymes contained in the juice. The second way is to do a juice fast. Don’t eat any foods. Drink only homemade juices (and plenty of water) for one day up to three days. Drink more than three glasses of juice a day if you need to. When you get hungry or feel weak, drink more juice. This will give your digestive organs a much needed rest from processing heavy foods while still providing your body with all the nutrition it needs, as built up toxins and waste are eliminated.

Equal amounts of fruits versus vegetables should be used in a juice fast (or cleanse). Mixing fruit with vegetables will make everything taste sweeter. To get the full spectrum of vitamins and minerals needed, your juice combinations should consist of equal parts from the five color groups: red, green, yellow, orange, purple. Not every glass of juice needs to have everything in it, but over the course of the day try to get something from all the color groups and have the fruit/vegetable ratio balance out. Below are listed some ideas to help get you started.

Red: tomato, red bell pepper, red apple, red chiles, watermelon, cherry, raspberry. radish, red grape, strawberry

Green: cucumber, Italian squash, celery, green cabbage, green bell pepper, green apple, green grape, pear, kiwi, honeydew melon, lime, spinach, turnip, collard, kale, mustard, dandelion, cilantro, parsley, lettuces, wheat grass

(Spinach is mild in flavor but some of the other leafy greens can be rather intense. Buffer these with carrot and apple.)

Yellow: banana, lemon, yellow squash, yellow pepper, yellow bell pepper, golden delicious apple, yellow flesh melon, yellow tomato, turnip, parsnip

Orange: orange, blood orange, cantaloupe, grapefruit, orange bell pepper, carrot, peach, apricot, nectarine, papaya, mango

Purple: red cabbage, rhubarb, eggplant, blueberry, boysenberry, plum, black grape

(Spinach is mild in flavor but some of the other leafy greens can be rather intense. Buffer these with carrot and apple.)

If you want to feel lighter, cleaner, invigorated, energized, nourished, optimistic, positive, and renewed — try a juice cleanse or a juice fast. To continue to provide your body with all the vitamins, minerals and enzymes it needs daily, and to prevent toxins from accumulating internally, continue drinking homemade juice daily. You’ll be amazed at what it will do for you.

Get Rid of Drug Addiction with Effective Drug Rehab Program

Addiction to drugs can spoil a person’s entire life and drug affected families often search for a suitable drug rehab program. Teenagers usually start consuming drugs just for fun, out of curiosity and peer pressure and later they get trapped in the hands of drug addiction. Once a person gets addicted to drugs, it becomes very difficult for him/ her to quit drugs voluntarily. Not only the addicts but their families also suffer because of this problem.

Drugs can be both legal and illegal. But irrespective of their legality, they are extremely harmful. Therefore, it is always best to stay away from drug use and abuse. But for people, who already feel trapped, should join a drug rehabilitation program as soon as possible.

A drug rehab program will help you to get rid of drug addiction that will last not only for a few weeks or a few years, but for the rest of your life. Various drug rehab programs are available today. Different programs may vary in their approach but all such programs have the same basics. Here’s a brief description of how they work.

*  First, Drug-Free or Detox Program, rids  the body of any kind of drug residuals, street drugs, prescription drugs, alcohol or drugs which are stored in your system and can remain for years. These residues can trigger multiple symptoms including drug craving and depression which can result in a relapse. And this is why drug patients find it difficult to leave drugs. In rehab programs, medically supervised exercise combined with dry sauna sweating and vitamins removes all the drug residuals from your system and consequently you get rid of all the adverse effects of drugs.

*  Secondly, it includes Special Educational therapy that teaches you self-control. Sometimes people start drugs in order to escape the pressure of everyday life. This therapy enables you to focus in your life goals and increases your self-control; so that you don’t turn to drugs under any circumstances.

*  It also includes additional therapies to boost self-esteem and cure the need for drugs. People addicted to drugs often get harmful where they can hurt themselves or their loved ones. This tendency may further thrust them into drug abuse. This therapy enhances your sense of self-worth. With a clear mind and conscience, you can see things more clearly and can confront your problems more effectively.

*  The Follow-Up rehab program helps a former drug addict to get back into the society with dignity and respect. This program is specially designed to assist you on how you should proceed during your first year of recovery. This follow-up program is very important because it not only teaches you about how to lead a drug free life but further prevents you to give in to any desire to consume drugs.

The drug rehab program has very effective treatments to cure all kinds of drug addiction at affordable prices. Proper medical treatment along with compassion and respect can cure any drug addiction. If you or anyone in your family is suffering from drug addiction then contact your nearest drug rehab centre who will listen to your problem and will answer all your questions and will assist you with appropriate drug rehabilitation.

Preparing for the Most Effective Detox

There are many ways to detox your body. There are herbals formulas, oxygen formulas, liquid herbal formulas, water detox, foot patch detox, enemas, and colonics just to name a few. There is no perfect one to use. They all have their benefits. It wouldn’t be recommended to use more than one at the same time, but you could try different ones each time you detox and see which one gives you the best result.

Detoxing isn’t a one-time, quick fix to erase all the evil things you have ever done to your body. Preparing your body for any detoxification plan is important. You need to get your body ready for the release of toxins it is about to experience. You should also consider making your detox part of your spring and fall cleaning.

If you’ve never tried natural detoxification before, and here are a few tips to help you prepare.

Water

Begin by increasing your water intake to a level that is about half your body weight in ounces. If you weigh 200 pounds, focus on drinking 100 ounces of water equally distributed throughout the day. This will help begin to flush toxins out.

Smoking

Nicotine is a toxin. So it only makes sense that if we are working the existing nicotine toxins out of your body, we shouldn’t be putting them back in at the same time. When you decide to quit smoking, doing a detox is a very helpful approach to supplement your efforts.

Alcohol

If you regularly consume alcohol, your detox will be much more effective and less stressful on your liver if you abstain during your detox. Again, the same principal applies as with smoking. Alcohol is a toxin to your liver. If we are working to cleanse your liver, we don’t want to put the toxins right back in.

Over-the-counter drugs

Many people are addicted to OTC medications, with painkillers like ibuprofen or acetaminophen at the top of the list. Studies by researchers at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center found that more than one-third of 300 cases of liver failure were associated with excessive use of acetaminophen. They also blamed excess acetaminophen use on liver injury in over one-third of 307 other cases. If you regularly use these types of OTC medications, it is important to discontinue use of them during a detox unless prescribed by your doctor.

As with any detox, it is important to check with your doctor and advise him of the detox program you are planning to use and make sure it is advisable based on your health and current medications. Some herbs can react with medications to make them ineffective.
