Alcohol detox is a painful process by which an alcoholic abruptly stops consuming alcohol and begins the process of healing.  For the serious alcoholic, this process is both painful and frightening, conjuring the very demons which he or she attempted to escape through their addiction.  How incredible would it be if one could avoid this step on the way to healing?

Remarkably, such a method does in fact exist.  It is known as the Self(s) Healing Experience (SHE), by which 30,000 people with addictive behavior have completely outgrown abusing and cravings for alcohol as a byproduct of SHE.  The incomparable healer and luminary behind it all is Rhonda Lenair, whose mission is simply to center her clients in inner peace through the Self(s) Healing Experience.

Rhonda has received a tremendous respect from the larger medical community.  Says Dr. Posner, a thriving chiropractor in New York, “I ponder daily my sessions with you and the many subsequent changes that have since taken place, yet it is difficult for me to put into words the feelings that I now experience. I feel like a sleeping giant is awakening and this is really quite joyful! It’s incredible how all aspects of my life are improving on every level!   I want to say thank you from the deepest part of my heart and soul. Not only have you helped me, but also all of my patients as well, for they also reap the benefits which radiate outwardly to all in my sphere of influence.”

Ms. Lenair’s work has attracted its share of accolades, but most moving of all are the stories of her clients.  One client, Frank, was able to miraculously bypass detox symptoms through his work with Rhonda- despite 10 years of extremely heavy daily drinking.

“From the first moment she placed her hands on me, I felt healed,” said Frank. He was already going through detox when he arrived at Rhonda’s office and felt terrible, as he had been driving with his father for two days. But he said the desire for alcohol and all thoughts about it were instantly removed. “No other words than a complete and absolute miracle could describe that experience and what happened to me,” commented Frank. When asked how his life changed since seeing Rhonda, he quipped, “I have a life now when before I didn’t.”

Rather than wrestling with your health for days, weeks, months or even years, why not try an experience that bypasses detox symptoms altogether?

Drug detoxification varies depending on the location of treatment, but most Detox centers provide treatment to avoid the symptoms of physical withdrawal to alcohol & other drugs. Certain approaches in alternative medicine claim to remove “toxins” from the body through herbal, electrical or electromagnetic treatments (such as the Aqua Detox treatment).

Drug detoxification is used to reduce or relieve withdrawal symptoms while helping the addicted individual adjusts to living without drug use; drug detoxification is not meant to treat addiction but rather an early step in long-term treatment. Detoxification may be achieved drug free or may use medications as an aspect of treatment. Often drug detoxification and treatment will occur in a community program that lasts several months and takes place in a residential rather than medical center.

Alcohol detoxification session usually lasts 5 to 6 weeks. The diet is to be protein-rich and with a generous amount of fiber and fluids, and the person should consume water throughout the day. Since most alcoholics have sugar problems, hypoglycemic substances should be consumed. Parsley and chamomile teas are effective alkaloids which stimulate kidney elimination processes.

Metabolic detoxification: an animal’s metabolism can produce harmful substances which it can then make less toxic through oxidation, conjugation and excretion of molecules from cells or tissues. Diet detoxification: Certain diets have an underlying assumption that the body accumulates toxins that must be removed, especially after periods of over-eating or the consumption of non-nutritious and processed foods. As with alternative medicine, the ‘toxins’ removed are undefined and are ascribed to foods, the environment and the body’s own wastes, and there is no scientific basis for the hypothesis. Nearly all Detox diets advocate increased water consumption, at least eight glasses a day. Thus due to all above reasons and alcohol Detox treatment is also well known and commonly known as detoxification.

Alcohol and Your Beauty

Everyone knows about the dangers of alcohol. How can you miss it with all these adverts out there, put out by the health organisations with the sole purpose of driving fear into the heart of everyone that drinks by showing us exactly what alcohol does to our hearts and livers. Children are taught at school age about what dangers alcohol brings if they start drinking from an early age. A lot of people say this may be a little bit young, however it is necessary because in the modern day the majority of youngsters start much earlier than they would have done in the past, and they admit to it, even boast about it.

But for those who are simply not disturbed by the shocking statistics or turn a blind eye, perhaps another thing to consider is the effect that alcohol abuse can have on your appearance. Yes, for those who invest as much in their lotions, potions and beauty products as they do on their weekend drinking habits, you might be shocked to find out that alcohol can adversely affect your appearance.

One of the main effects of alcohol is the damage it causes to your skin. You end up with dry, cracked skin and blocked pores, lading to spots. You will get black rings under your eyes and end up looking old way before you are supposed to. So in summary, you will end up looking tired, spotty and old. This won’t be winning you any beauty contests any time soon! Your latest revolutionary skin cream won’t help you this time! Oh yes I nearly forgot, alcohol will also make you smell, as it leaves your body through your sweat and your breath.

Add to that the fact that alcohol is a cause of obesity and cellulite as well and really what we have is a not so pleasant cocktail of side effects. For the beauty conscious, it’s actually something of a nightmare.

It is not just the way you look that can be damaged by alcohol as the adverts we mentioned earlier tell you. They should be taken seriously because you can damage your heart and liver badly through alcohol abuse and these can be life threatening problems. The odd night out won’t make you fat and ugly or give you a life threatening disease, but if you do it very regularly then you are likely to find yourself with problems. If you are wanting to look fantastic and feel even better and live longer, then you should have an alcohol detox and drink in relative moderation.

You will find that many people who are into an alcohol addiction will not want to consider that they need a detoxification treatment for their recovery. Of course, we are talking about people who have overcome their denial and are now contemplating on some or the other method of treatment. Denial is an important impediment in the overall addiction treatment program for alcoholism in Rhode Island.

These people do not want to consider that the alcoholism they are in is to a dangerous level and that they will need some kind of treatment to come out of this condition. In Rhode Island, there is an overwhelming 90% denial rate among alcohol addicts. It is only the remaining 10% that get into treatment and even among these, the number of people who will actually use the alcohol detox treatment is quite small.

Alcohol detox in Rhode Island is one of the most neglected parts of addiction treatment, from the point of view of the patients. However, it can very well be said that complete sobriety in alcohol addiction is not possible without this treatment. Let us see the validation of this statement by understanding the aims and intentions of alcohol detox in Rhode Island.

The main purpose of alcohol detox in Rhode Island is the same as it is elsewhere; to cleanse the person’s body of the alcohol that might have accumulated in it over the long years of the addiction. Alcohol is a liquid, but it does not always get metabolized completely in the body. A lot of alcohol may remain residual in the liver and the kidneys of the person and even in the bloodstream. This alcohol may accumulate in these areas over time and cause health problems later on.

It is very important to remove this residual alcohol present in the body, and the detox treatment is a means of achieving that. When a person is detoxified, what is actually done is that the patient is made to abstain from the alcohol completely. Being assured that no further alcohol is entering the body, the treatment providers will then employ a medicinal approach to purge the residual substances within their body. This can take time, depending on how intense the patient’s alcohol usage has been. However, most programs for alcohol detox in Rhode Island are wound up within a week.

An important effect of the alcohol detox in Rhode Island is the withdrawal process that kicks in one or two days after the patient has been kept abstinent from the substance. This withdrawal is the body’s way of telling that it requires its regular supply of alcohol. However, it is very important to get the person pass through this phase of treatment because this is what makes the treatment real in the person’s mind. The patient can understand that something is definitely happening in the body; the withdrawal is an indication that the alcohol is moving out from the body and it is getting cleansed. Hence, apart from the other obvious benefits that an alcohol detox program has, an important benefit is that the patient gets morally encouraged to keep away from the addiction.

The most obvious benefit of this treatment is that the person’s body gets cleansed from the alcohol that is present in it. This is a direct way of preventing certain health complications. In fact, even people who are already suffering from health complications because of their alcohol addiction will find sure benefits when they have been purged of the alcohol in their body through an alcohol detox program.

It has been found that alcohol can cause its effects even years after the patient has stopped using alcohol. There are treatment approaches used in Rhode Island where people are made to come out of their alcoholism through counseling and holistic approaches. Though people might come out of their alcohol usage through such means, the residual un-metabolized alcohol will still remain in their bodies. This is what will cause health problems later on in life. Many people who acquire cirrhosis of liver due to alcohol have actually quit using alcohol several years ago. Thus, alcohol detox in Rhode Island is a method of ensuring that the person does not get these kinds of health complications later on in life.

Another important point is that unless and until the alcohol is removed from the body of the person, he or she will never be able to feel totally free from it. The temptations will always resurface. That is why the substance needs to be completely voided from the system so that the person stays totally free from the addiction for a longer period of time.

When someone is with a drug addiction, it becomes a foregone conclusion that they will have to go through a detox treatment. People who are looking at any kind of drug addiction treatment are resigned to the fact that they will need detox. But this is not the case with alcohol addiction treatment. Alcohol detox is simply not considered to be as important as drug detox. That is the reason people have several questions when they are counseled that they will have to go through an alcohol detox program.

The following are some questions that people facing the prospect of an alcohol detox have, with their answers.

Q1. Is alcohol detox really important?

Most patients of alcohol addiction ask this, and even their families do. However, the answer to this question is a positive “yes”. Alcohol detox is just as important as a drug detox treatment if not more. The first benefit that this treatment provides is that it completely detoxifies the body. The meaning of detoxification is removal of toxins, which in this case is the alcohol itself. So, when a person is made to go through an alcohol detox treatment, the alcohol present in the body of the person is removed.

This has many positive benefits on the person. One, it helps the patient to come out of the health problems that the alcohol accumulation might cause, such as the cirrhosis of the liver. It helps alcoholics to stay healthier. In most people, it has been found that they have gotten into a better body shape after an alcohol detox treatment. Also, it helps people in coming out of their urges for the substance. As long as there is presence of alcohol in the body of the person, there is always a chance that the person will have a tendency to have more of it. But with the detox treatment, the alcohol is completely removed from the body. Hence, there is a possibility that the person is completely brought out of the temptation of the substance. This is a definite positive benefit of the detox treatment.

For these reasons, alcohol detox is indeed important and must not be neglected.

Q2. How is an alcohol detox treatment program implemented?

First, the person’s condition is properly analyzed to make sure that the person does not have any physical or psychiatric complication that might pose a problem to the treatment program. Once it is decided that the person is fit enough to go through the alcohol detox treatment, he or she is made to abstain completely from the substance. In order to make things simpler, the patient is kept in an isolated treatment center so that they are away from familiar circumstances and people, thus making it better to stay away from the substance.

Within a few hours or within a day or two, the person will begin feeling the initial pangs of withdrawal, which will be characterized by a craving for the substance which becomes stronger every hour. A time might come when the patient will show violent physical reactions for want of alcohol. This is when a battery of the right kinds of medicines (depending on the patient’s condition and the program of the treatment center) will be provided so that the person can be brought out of this condition.

The withdrawal pangs are at their strongest on the second to third day of the detox. Once the person is brought out of this peak period, the withdrawal gradually goes on diminishing because the medication begins to take effect. After about a week, most patients are completely out of their alcohol withdrawal.

Q3. What about the medicines that are provided during alcohol detox?

There are two main functions of the medications that are provided during the alcohol detox. The first intention is to help the body come out of the temptation for using the alcohol. Medications such as Antabuse, Campral and Topamax are used for this purpose. Antabuse is quite effective and almost universally used. This substance can actually cause an aversion in the person for alcohol, which is quite effective in helping people come out of their addictions.

There are also medications such as Naltrexone which are provided here. These medications are used mostly to stabilize the body after the withdrawal begins to appear. The main function of these medications is to bring the body back to a normal state as much as possible.

Q4. In what cases will an alcohol detox be waived?

An alcohol detox will almost always be a part of the treatment program, but if the patient has been with the addiction for a very short time, typically under a year, then the detox program might be waived for them.
