With different preschools in the Addison, Carrollton, and Farmers Branch area we want all parents and kids to distinguish between strangers and friends.Keeping kids safe from strangers is an important topic to teach kids while they are young so they can have a better understanding of whose bad and whose good.
What is the meaning of a stranger? Is a stranger a friend of the family?
Not knowing a person very well can mean that you are a stranger to that person. Younger kids tend to be less understanding about the meaning of strangers. Preschool kids might not understand the meaning of strangers or may think that strangers are only mean looking. Kids should know that strangers are people that they don’t know or parents don’t know.
By knowing what a stranger is you can exclude family members and close friends but some friendly people like the UPS guy/lady or milk man guy are included. Some kids may think that strangers are only strange acting or looking people. Strangers are people whom we don’t know well enough to talk to.
Strangers and safe Adults.
How would a child know the difference between a stranger and good adult? Children may at times be fooled by the kindness of a stranger.
Parents need to teach their children very specifically. For example, when they are at the mall they need to tell them specifically who is a safe adult and who is not. For example, it’s okay to talk to the cashier and answer his questions, but not necessarily an adult who comes up to you out of nowhere. Adults may tend to ask kids questions and tend not to be harmful but just to be safe kids should not talk to strangers without their parents or responsible adult around.
