Is it Safe to Detox at Home?

It seems to be somewhat popular today – the idea that you can just tough it out and detox yourself at home – all by your lonesome. is this advisable? does it work?

In an interview on Anderson Cooper, Amy Winehouse’s father recently said that the singer who was in a long-term battle quitting drugs and alcohol may have killed herself with the way she was trying to detox at home.

This isn’t just something that some grieving layperson of a father just decided to blurt out. Respected experts believe this too – alcohol detox is a very dangerous thing and you can actually die from the process is you aren’t in professional hands.

Alcohol abuse and addiction are huge problems in this country – about 20 million people struggle with it every year. Of those who accept no treatment and try alcohol detox at home, about one in twenty suffers from seizures. those in the know suspect that Amy Winehouse had a fatal seizure as well. Of those who suffer the worst kinds of alcohol withdrawal symptoms, about one in four usually die. those are scary statistics. And they could prove that alcohol is the most dangerous drug of them all. The human body doesn’t handle alcohol and its withdrawal well at all.

So how exactly does one detox at home? do they just suffer silently through it and hope that one day this pain will go away? In Amy Winehouse’s case, apparently, she was taking a drug that is well-known for the way it helps with alcohol detoxification – she was taking Librium. If you are trying to withdraw from alcohol use or the abuse of other such drugs, you can suffer seizure.

Librium is actually a very unfortunate choice of detox drug. it causes addiction by itself. People who abuse this drug can often begin to suffer from high blood pressure, anxiety and other addiction symptoms. If you’re self-medicating, you have to know that quitting Librium can cause a seizure. you need close supervision from a doctor and you need to make sure you don’t take it for more than a week.

Alcohol withdrawal typically does to the body the exact opposite of what alcohol use this. If downing a few drinks gets you all relaxed and happy, alcohol withdrawal can get you irritated, agitated and hyper. Your liver is affected too, and you can come down with jaundice. you need to know exactly how the body reacts to alcohol withdrawal before trying to detox at home. do it in a hurry with inadequate knowledge, and things could quickly go wrong.
