Three options to cleanse the body and start fresh
As a personal trainer, I’ve heard every excuse in the book to avoid working out and eating healthy. many of my clients say that their biggest hurdle is just getting started. whether your goal is to gain lean mass, lose weight or improve overall fitness, detoxifying your body is a great way to start any fitness resolution.
In today’s mobile and media-driven world, finding an answer is a click away. New diets are constantly streaming on TV commercials and an array of detox diets are available as well.
Unfortunately, many are dissuaded from the possible weight loss by the health risks. however, there are healthy ways to detoxify the body.
Metabolic activity in the body produces toxins as a byproduct. even though the body does a great job getting rid of them, livestrong.com asserts that we can help the process by consuming dietary fiber, which is a great natural cleanser.
Cleansers using fruits and vegetables are highly effective, due to the amount of fiber and vitamins they contain. Fruits and vegetables contain antioxidants such as Vitamins A, C and E which help to clean up radicals in the body.
There are three detoxification diets I find beneficial from Gaiam Life (life.gaiam.com). The plan you choose will depend on your previous detox experience. for instance, if this is your first time detoxing, you may want to do it for a shorter period of time.
The most simple option consists of consuming raw or cooked fruits and vegetables in small meals 4-6 times a day. An average length of this cleanse is 2-3 days. The idea is to give the body a break from animal and processed foods.
Another great option is the smoothie cleanse. it consists of one cup of fruits and vegetables mixed in a blender with a cup of rice, almond or soy milk. for higher caloric needs, protein powder can be added. 4-6 servings a day are recommended for a maximum of seven days.
Also available is the juice cleansing detox. this deep cleanser is ideal to jump start a weight loss program. Nutrient-rich fruits and vegetables, as well as a juicer, are recommended for this diet. The recommended length of this diet is between 3-5 days.
Remember, with all three diets the body will be at a caloric deficit. Limiting physical activity is highly recommended to ensure the body will focus on flushing the toxins out. now begin your fitness resolutions with a strong start. Stay consistent, work hard and work smart.
