Why Buy A Wine Refrigerator?
You may know that wine is usually stored in underground cellars to keep the liquid cool and preserve taste for years to come. Since you cannot have a cellar in a urban home, you can use a wine refrigerator instead.
Since a wine cellar is a tad difficult to implement in an urban setting, wine refrigerators are a much handier option.
As a general rule of thumb, the ideal storage temperature is usually considered to be around 13 degrees Celsius, but there are exceptions of course. For instance, the Madeira, which is exposed to high temperatures during its making, can stand more exposure to high temperature than some other delicate wines, like a Reisling, which tastes better at lower temperatures. Hence, there are fridges specifically meant to store and chill wine.
A general range of 10-15 degrees (Celsius) is recommended by most experts if you wish to store and age your wine. The temperature control of these fridges is different from your regular refrigerator.
A standard wine refrigerator will take up very little space in your home and a smaller model may even be placed right on top of the bar counter and will cost you around $100.
But if you have an eye for detail and want to replicate a cellar in your home, there are wine fridges to suit that need too! These can be the size of regular fridges and have various temperature zones for storing and chilling your wines.
Unless you are a professional taster or connoisseur, it might prove a rather expensive investment. This is because these specially designed wine refrigerators can easily come equipped with a price tag of 2000$.
The basic wine refrigerator may not provide you cellar-like advantages, but can preserve your wine nevertheless. When you want a drink, you will always get it at the right temperature!
